Synopsis: Investigating Spaces by Edwin Stolk (2007)

'Imagine to be everything and everybody, everywhere and in every situation you can think of'.

The video performance Investigating spaces starts from a pre scientific point of view. This movie is about a search throughout our daily surroundings in a social as well as material way. In a small setting, a room in my house, I use daily life materials as metaphor for large global issues.

[tags] to the work could be: mass consumption, terrorism, addiction, individualism, objectivism, politics, games etc. but always in search for the acceptance of human behavior. I am a radical phenomenologist, a subjective terrorist, everything outside of me is inside and I am totally outside myself.

Investigating Spaces is not a search for beauty, to make this visible it’s made by hand with a low resolution photo camera, the actual image is emotional, rough and dirty in its search for acceptance. General television shows us more and more these rough video material shot with mobile phones right at the spot, often it shows the down site of life. (text by Edwin Stolk)

'Stel je voor alles en iedereen te zijn, overall en in elke situatie die je maar kunt bedenken'

De video performance Invesigating Spaces is onstaan vanuit een voor-wetenschappelijk perspectief. Deze video betreft een zoektocht door onze dagelijkse omgeving, zowel in een sociaal maatschappelijke als materialistische wijze. Opnamen vonden plaats in een kleine ruimte, een kamer in mijn huis, in deze kamer gebruik ik alledaagse materialen als metafoor voor grote wereldwijde problemen.

[tags] voor het werk kunnen zijn: massa consumptie, terrorisme, verslaving, individualisme, objectivisme, politiek, games, etc maar altijd met als uitgangspunt de acceptatie van menselijk gedrag. Ik ben een radicale fenomenoloog, een subjectieve terrorist, alles wat buiten mij is, is binnen in mij en ik ben geheel en al buiten mijzelf.

Investigating Spaces is geen zoektocht naar schoonheid, om dit duidelijk te maken heb ik de film uit de hand opgenomen met een lage resolutie fotocamera. De video die ontstaan is geeft een ruig en emotioneel beeld weer van een zoektocht naar acceptatie. De publieke televisie laat ons steeds vaker deze ruige filmpjes zien, gemaakt met enkel een telefoon laten deze beelden vaak de zelfkant van de maatschappij zien, geschoten op de plaats van de actie.
